George (Available for Adoption!)
This 11.5 year old big guy with a heart-shaped ear came to QBSDR as an extremely obese owner surrender. We’ve been working on his fitness and are happy to announce that homie has a waistline and HOPS in his crate now! He’s been working so hard and has been so cooperative with his diet and exercise. It’s a relief to see the mobility go up and know that the join pressure is going down.
Medically, Georgie has quite a few issues: arthritis in back, narrowed disc space, bone spurs, and hips that are in poor condition — most of which can be attributed to his weight. In addition, a very large (benign) mass was removed from his booty area when he first came to us. An additional mass removed from behind his ear came back as Grade 2 mast cell tumor.
He’s never had any formal training or rules and boundaries in a household, something he’s currently learning and working on. He’s done amazingly well at crate training and waiting for his food. He’s been working super hard at being desensitized to physical handling, brushings, and the feeling of a leash around his neck. George is good with other dogs, unknown with cats, and would be best with older, respectful kids that will respect the aches and pains of his body.
Georgie needs a super committed and dedicated family to help him reach his fullest potential! George has more weight to lose and will be looking for someone to help him get to his goal weight of 30-32lbs. This potential home should also know that he will potentially have more mast cell tumors develop in the future that will need to be removed. If you’re up for the task of continuing the work he needs: desensitizing exercises, weight loss, and basic obedience to help guide him through life, then we urge you to submit an application today!
